Why Recall Leticia Garcia and Sophia Green?

Quite simply, the actions and inactions of Fontana Board Members Leticia Garcia and Sophia Green have undermined Fontana children’s education and consequently, their future.

The job of the Board Member is to be the partners our children need and deserve working together toward their success; instead, these two members have wasted our resources, created public distrust and damaged the image of the district and the City of Fontana by attacking the entities and people (including parents, teachers and students) who support our schools.

A Recall Election provides the opportunity for us to examine all candidates on the key issues that support the success for our district.  We can now select Board Members who will come alongside our students, parents, teachers, government and private entities and partner with them to ensure our children’s education and success.

Specifically, here’s why you should vote to recall Garcia and Green:

Leticia Garcia and Sophia Green were elected to the Fontana School Board in November 2010.  Since their election they have had a detrimental impact on the safety and overall well-being of the Fontana School District.

1Both voted to abolish the After School Program, saying it had major flaws without citing those flaws or proposing an alternative.  Their actions damaged the relationship between the city and the district and jeopardized a very capable program that serves 3500 students and their working families. Their actions jeopardized future funding for this program and the 350 jobs associated with it.  When the public cried out as a result of their actions, they claimed to have originated an oversight committee to review and assist with the program’s success, when in fact the implementation of an oversight committee is part of a state requirement.

2Leticia Garcia spearheaded a failed ballot parcel tax in order to gain political favor to run for a state level position.  This failed attempt to raise taxes cost the District $147,000 at a time when jobs and programs that improved the educational quality for Fontana students were being eliminated in the district for lack of funds.  Green consistently votes against every proposal and even her own motions, but never provides alternatives or solutions to problems facing the Fontana School District.
3Both Leticia Garcia and Sophia Green have repeatedly attacked the integrity of the District Administration and the School Superintendent.  On several occasions, both have leveled unfounded accusations against the Fontana School Superintendent, Administrators and Teachers for procedures and practices they utilize to advance the children’s knowledge and skills.  They attempt to bully and intimidate our educators at each School Board meeting by placing the Superintendent’s employment contract on the agenda for evaluation/reprimand/termination.  They flagrantly disregard district policy, not to mention common sense and decency, regarding confidentiality of district personnel issues, as evidenced by their Facebook postings.
